There is much controversy surrounding same-sex relationships. The issue of gay adoption is no exception. There are those who believe that there should be no government legislation against this form of adoption. Conversely, there are those who believe that this type of adoption should not be allowed. Both sides have strong opinions about the issue. For many states it is still undecided as to whether gay adoption should be legal or illegal.

Critics of gay adoption hold that it is not beneficial to the child to be raised in a home with parents of the same sex. This could have an affect on the child’s development and maturity when it comes to gender roles. Opponents believe that since same-sex relationships are morally wrong, then gay adoptions are also morally wrong. There are studies to show that children that are raised in homosexual households are four times more likely to become homosexual or become involved in homosexual activity. These are the reasons that many are against this form of adoption.

Supporters of gay adoption contend that there is no evidence to support the claim that this adoption is not beneficial to children. Same-sex couples can provide the same love and support for their children as heterosexual couples. Proponents also believe that same-sex relationships are not morally wrong. Hence, gay adoption is also not wrong. Supporters believe that sexual orientation does not affect ones ability to be a good parent to a child. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with adoption.

Both sides of the debate strongly believe in their position. The solution to the debate ultimately comes down to moral beliefs in homosexuality. Since there is much division on whether or not same-sex relationships are legal, there will also be much division on the subject of gay adoption. It will be up to the nation’s leaders to decide what rules to put in place.
